Speckle Contrast Imaging
Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI or LSI) is important in many fields of biomedical diagnostic such as rheumatology, burns, dermatology or neurology. For example, it allows to map the cerebral blood flow of newborns or to analyze the extent of a stroke.
TOPTICA EAGLEYARD’s single frequency lasers are the ideal for this technology as they allow the non-invasive measurement of blood perfusion in human tissue.
LSCI makes use of the speckle contrast reduction of speckle patterns caused by the ordered and disordered motion of the illuminated area. The analysis of this blurring effect enables the imaging of the blood perfusion with excellent spatial and temporal resolution.
The 780 and 785 nm single frequency lasers enable a deep penetration into human tissue and match well with the spectral sensitivity of CCD cameras and CMOS sensors based on Si detectors. These facts and the high coherence of the lasers make them into the ideal light source for laser speckle contrast imaging.
